How it fits: Samuel is a multi-threat player as receiver, kick returner and cover man in special teams. He was an honored SEC player with 62 catches for 882 yards (14.2 on average) and 11 touchdowns by the SEC this season. He also returned 23 punts for 570 yards (24.8) with another score.
Samuel is tough, competitive and disconcerting. He is a threat to run after the capture. He will immediately adapt to the place of a team.
The Lions have signed with veteran receivers Danny Amendola and Tommylee Lewis this season, but Detroit could certainly consider adding new talent to the post, especially in the slot.
Main observations Samuel had 86 career receptions for a total of 1,194 yards and 28 touchdowns, including 16 with a total of four receptions, seven in a hurry, four send-offs and one fumble recovery. He also launched a touchdown pass.
Samuel has broken 21 tackles against just 62 catches this season. He is dynamic and strong after catching up and has been the best receiver in the Senior Bowl.
Injuries struck him in college, however, durability is a fair criticism of him.

He was extremely productive when he was in good health, but he struggled against several injuries during his university career. In the South Carolina offensive, he caught a ton of fast hitters – mostly bubble screens and slopes. He catches the ball naturally, and he is exceptional after catching it.
