Paleontologists have reported that one Tyrannosaurus rex nicknamed "Scotty" – is the largest in the world to date, measuring 13 meters long.
Scotty, nicknamed the night of the discovery of a scotch bottle, has leg bones suggesting a live weight of over 8,000 kg, making it an animal bigger than any other carnivorous dinosaur discovered to date .
Tyrannosaurus rex (rex meaning King in Latin), or T. rex, lived in what is now western North America. The researchers say that Scotty lived in prehistoric Saskatchewan, Canada, 66 million years ago. Scott Persons, a researcher at the University of Alberta, is the lead author of the study published on March 21, 2019 in The anatomical file. The people said in a statement:
It's the rexes rexes. There is considerable variability in size between Tyrannosaurus. Some people were leaner than others and others more robust. Scotty illustrates the robust. Take careful measurements of your legs, hips and even your shoulder. Scotty comes out a little stronger than other specimens of T. rex.
The skeleton was discovered for the first time in 1991. But it took more than a decade to remove the hard sandstone that covered the bones. Scientists have only recently been able to study the fully assembled skeleton and realize how unique the Scotty Dinosaur is.
It's not just Scotty's size and weight that sets him apart. People said:
Scotty is the oldest T. rex known. I hear that he would have had the greatest number of candles on his last birthday cake. You can get an idea of the age of a dinosaur by carving his bones and studying his growth patterns. Scotty is old.
It is estimated that Scotty was in his early thirties when he died. People said:
According to Tyrannosaurus standards, its lifespan was exceptionally long. And it was violent. The skeleton is riddled with pathologies – places where the scarred bone records large wounds.
Among Scotty's injuries are broken ribs, an infected jaw and what could be a bite of another T. rex on his tail, scars of a long life. People said:
I think there will always be bigger discoveries to make. But for the moment, this Tyrannosaurus is the largest known terrestrial predator of science.
Conclusion: A Tyrannosaurus rex nicknamed Scotty – discovered in Canada – is the largest T. rex yet discovered.
