Dave Mustaine, singer and guitarist of Megadeth, was diagnosed with throat cancer.

He revealed the news on Facebook and reported that he had already started treatment.

Mustaine says, "I was diagnosed with cancer of the throat. This is clearly something to respect and face, but I have already faced obstacles.

"I work closely with my doctors and have developed a treatment plan with a 90% success rate. The treatment has already begun.

"Unfortunately, this requires us to cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will take place and the group will be part of it in one form or another. All updated information will be on megadeth.com as soon as we get them. Megadeth will be back on the road as soon as possible. "

Mustaine adds, "Meanwhile, Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow-up of Dystopia – that I can not wait for everyone to hear.

"I'm really grateful to the entire team, his family, his doctors, his members, his trainers and more. I will keep everyone informed. See you soon."

Supporting messages began pouring in for Mustaine on social media, Scott Ian of Anthrax being one of the first to wish good luck to his friend.

He says, "Please, join me in sending all our most powerful, positive spirit balls to my brother Dave. You have this my friend, you can beat him – as if you were fighting me in the showdown! Kick her ass and get healthy again! "

David Ellefson, a member of the Mustad Megadeth group, said, "Praying for my friend Dave Mustaine for a quick and complete recovery!"

Chris Jericho posted a picture of himself and Mustaine on Instagram, saying: "Sending love and prayers to my brother Dave Mustaine while he is preparing to fight throat cancer Dave is a fighter and he is at his best when he is angry … so watch out for cancer! The metal community is with you, Dave. "
