Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has filed a formal complaint with the UK broadcaster over Piers Morgan’s comments

ITV announced on Tuesday that Morgan would be leaving the show it hosted, ‘Good Morning Britain,’ after casting doubt on Meghan’s thoughts of suicide, a major revelation from her successful interview with Oprah Winfrey.

“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided it is now time to leave Good Morning Britain,” ITV said on Tuesday. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing more to add.”

CNN understands that Meghan’s complaint to ITV was about the impact Morgan’s comments might have on others and how that might degrade the severity of mental health issues. The complaint was not about the personal nature of Morgan’s attacks.

In Monday’s edition of “Good Morning Britain,” Morgan questioned whether the Duchess was being honest about her suicidal thoughts. His comments sparked huge controversy in Britain and he was reprimanded by the mental health charity Mind.

UK media regulator Ofcom said it had received more than 41,000 complaints about Monday’s edition of “Good Morning Britain” and had opened an investigation under its “injury and infringement rules”.

Morgan said on Wednesday he “still” doesn’t believe Meghan.

“I had time to think about this opinion, and I still don’t. [believe her]”Morgan tweeted.” If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill on which I am happy to die. Thanks for all the love and hate. I will spend more time with my opinions. “
