Meghan Markle and Harry hope to attend Queen’s platinum jubilee with Palace ‘headache’

Prince Harry is said to have ’caused a headache’ with a ‘very awkward’ wish for him and Meghan Markle to be included in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Next year the country will mark the 70th anniversary with what has been envisioned as a four-day extravaganza of public celebrations, including parades and pageantry.

In November, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden announced that Britons would also use a four-day public holiday between June 2-5 to celebrate this historic milestone.

And it appears the Queen’s grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who have been stripped of their honorary military appointments and royal patronages, want to join in the fun.

But the couple’s planned presence would cause problems at Buckingham Palace after the Queen confirmed the couple will sever all official ties with The Firm after deciding to step down and step down from public service for good.

Now The Sun reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who left the royal family last year, want to return for family occasions.

Addressing the newspaper “an insider” reportedly said, “Harry wants to be there. It is already causing a headache and is going to be very inconvenient.

“Where will they be positioned if they show up? What events can they attend? Are we going to put them on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the flypast?

“This is a celebration of the Queen’s 70 years of service to the nation and should not be overshadowed. There are now so many questions about what to do with Harry and Meghan.

After the military title was announced, Buckingham Palace said in a statement it was “saddened by their decision”, but said Meghan and Harry “remain much loved members of the family”.

In response, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said: “As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service in the UK and in the world, and offered their continued support to the organizations they represented regardless of their official role.

“We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

It is unclear what shape the Queen’s birthday celebrations will take next year in the wake of the Covid pandemic with Buckingham Palace, but it has yet to confirm changes to the plans.

Prince Harry is expected to travel to the UK later this summer to unveil the statue of his future mother, Princess Diana.

It comes as Prince William was left ‘shocked’ by his brother’s behavior towards the monarch after Harry and Meghan issued a statement moments after the Queen confirmed their royal patronages would be returned to him.

Courtiers and other family members were also reportedly shocked by the tone of the couple’s response to the Queen in which they retorted, saying “service is universal”.

In a busy week for the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan, who are expecting their second child later this year, have opened up about their roles with The Firm in an upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, due to air in early March, will be re-edited following the final chapter of their split with the royal family.

Buckingham Palace was reportedly blinded by the announcement of the revealing interview.
