Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have over 10 million followers on their Instagram account @sussexroyal, although it has not been updated since March 2020, the month they officially ended their careers as as members of the royal family. Now a new word is coming that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not coming back on social media in any way.

A source close to the couple said The Sunday Times that the duo, who have moved to California since their royal hiatus, have “no plans” to use social media even as they launch their new business, the Archewell Foundation. The source also said the couple were “very unlikely” to use social media in any capacity.

For those interested in the couple, this should come as no surprise. Markle has previously commented on his decision not to have a social media account, stating in a virtual chat with Fortune in September: “For my own preservation, I haven’t been on social media for very long.” She added, “I have made the personal choice of not having an account, so I don’t know what’s out there, and many ways that are helpful to me.” Prior to her engagement to Prince Harry, Markle had her own Instagram account as well as a now-closed blog called The Tig.

Markle has also been very frank about the hate she received online and how damaging it has been. She recently shared her experience as a guest – alongside her husband – on the podcast Therapy for adolescents. “I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the world, male or female,” she said, mentioning the couple’s young son Archie. “Now, [for] eight months ago I wasn’t even visible – I was on maternity leave or with a baby. But what could be made and produced is almost impossible to survive.

Markle has also been trolled by his own family, most notably by his father, who sold pictures of himself preparing for his wedding to the paparazzi, and criticized his resignation from royal duties. Now her half-sister, Samantha Markle, is pulling out a revealing book, Princess Pushy’s Sister Diary Part 1 later this month. Thomas Markle, father of Meghan and Samantha, recently expressed his support for the book, saying Us weekly, “I’m just so happy that she completed this book.”

Their silence on social media doesn’t mean Meghan and Harry are slowing down their work. Markle wrote an editorial for the New York Times in November to shed light on her recent miscarriage and offer support to millions of other women in the process. She and Prince Harry also recently signed multi-year agreements with Spotify and Netflix, and are working with their Archewell Foundation – which does not have an official social media presence but, according to its website, is working to “unleash the power of compassion to drive systemic cultural change ”through nonprofit work and production.

In their signing message from last March to their Sussex Royal account, the couple wrote: “While you may not see us here, the work continues.” They have stayed true to their word.
