Meghan Markle risks being cut off as a member of the royal family, said Lisa Wilkinson.

Wilkinson, who covered Meghan's wedding with Prince Harry last year, predicted that the pregnant Duchess could see her potential and focus on passion projects for the empowerment of discounted women.

"My only regret with Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is that I feel that she is so intelligent and so good at public speaking that she is very strong in areas such as girls and homelessness, poverty. I think she married in the wrong family? Wilkinson said during the Monday episode of "The Project".

"Did you mention that when you covered the royal wedding from last year?", Plaisanta Waleed.

"There were dresses to talk about that day!" Joked Wilkinson.

Steve Price added that Meghan had "a nice soapbox now" thanks to his status as king, which Wilkinson subscribed to.

"She's doing it, I just hope they're not cutting her wings, she's a very smart woman," said Wilkinson.

Discussing media reports, Meghan had given Harry drama lessons to help her become more confident in public speaking. Wilkinson said that the Duke of Sussex seemed much more comfortable than Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"I always thought he was good enough (to speak in public)," she said.

"I think it's better than William and Kate, these two are just a little pinched, a little too much repeated, while Harry, his approach to life has always been more relaxed."

Before her marriage to Harry, the star of "Suits" was UN Women Ambassador and gave a speech at the 2015 UN Women's Conference.

At the Royal Foundation Forum held last year alongside Harry, William and Kate, Meghan, then involved, spoke of the need for women to feel empowered to speak.

"What's interesting is that I hear a lot of people – when you talk about girls' and women's empowerment – you often hear people say," Well, you help women to find their voice and I basically disagree with that, "said Meghan. .

"Women do not need to be heard, they have a voice and they need to feel empowered to use it, and people should be encouraged to listen."

"The Project" airs from Sunday to Friday at 18:30 on Network 10.
