Meghan Markle plans to take three months of maternity leave

Very pregnant, Meghan Markle will take only three months of maternity leave after the arrival of Baby Sussex.

The 37-year-old Duchess, who has to give birth every day, told her employees that she wanted to get back to work quickly, avoiding a possible year off.

Meghan completed her official royal duties six weeks ago, but continued to work behind the scenes with charities.

A royal source said: "Meghan has made it clear that she wants to return to work as soon as possible. She has tremendous energy, is extremely determined and wants to be as active as possible with her charitable works.

"Nothing in her diary has been written for now, because she wants to wait and see what she feels after having the baby."

"She drew in pencil after three months, but she will probably return to public life in six weeks – on the occasion of the Queen's official birthday, Trooping the Color, in June.

"In the United States, maternity is the norm every three months of American maternity: normally, women of six or even twelve months are not here in the United Kingdom. So it's quite normal for Meghan.

Harry, 34, also takes paternity leave, but we do not know how much.

His sister-in-law Kate, 37, took six months off after Louis was born last year and five months with Charlotte in 2015.

But she only took five weeks off after the birth of her first child, George, in July 2013 – and participated in an ultra-marathon in North Wales in August.

Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, arrived last week before the birth of her first grandchild. Both practiced yoga together.

Meghan posted a message from her and Harry to mark Louis' first date. She wrote on Instagram's royal account: "Happy birthday Louis! Sending a lot of love from both of us. "

It was after the couple was accused of attempting to steal the baby's thunder by posting eight of Harry's photos on their own Instagram page.
