Meghan Markle travels to New York to watch Serena Williams open in the US

Barely her maternity leave, Meghan Markle go home on American soil for a very special reason.

The 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex took a commercial flight on Friday to New York for a weekend trip to watch her longtime friend Serena Williams participate in the 2019 Open American Final. The star of tennis should face Bianca Andreescu Saturday to try to win a record 24th single Grand Slam title.

"It's a last-minute trip," said a source at the The temperature newspaper in London. "Excited to support her friend, then come back."

Meghan would travel without Prince Harry or their little boy Archie Harrison, and is accompanied by security, said the point of sale.

This is Meghan's first known solo trip abroad since the birth of the couple's son, their first child, in May, and the first time she returns to her native country in the United States since she attended her baby shower, which Serena co-organized Amal Clooney, in New York in February.

The trip comes weeks after Meghan and Harry sparked controversy and hypocrisy charges for using private jets to travel to southern France and Ibiza over the course of a few days. The royal couple expressed their support for environmental issues. Elton John later defended them saying that they had visited him in France and that he had paid for their plane.

Meghan's solo tour of the United States also comes weeks before Harry and Archie embark on a trip to South Africa between September 23rd and October 2nd.

Meghan and Serena have been friends for many years. They met in 2014 while they were playing in the same team at Celebrity Beach Bowl of DIRECTV.

In July, Meghan watched Serena participate in the Wimbledon tournament in England in 2019, which the Duchess attended with her sister-in-law. Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa Middletonas well as friends. This was Meghan's first solo release since childbirth.
