The Duchess of Sussex’s father, Thomas Markle, said a letter she sent him in August 2018 ended their relationship.

Thomas then allowed the Mail on Sunday to publish excerpts from the letter in a series of articles published in February 2019. Meghan is continuing the publication for misuse of private information, copyright infringement and violation of the law of 2008 on data protection.

In a witness statement for the Mail on Sunday, Thomas Markle told the UK High Court the letter showed ‘no concern’ for his health as he had suffered a heart attack just days before the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in May 2018.

“The letter was not an attempt at reconciliation. It was a criticism of me,” Thomas said in the witness statement, obtained by Insider. “The letter didn’t say that she loved me. It didn’t even ask me how I was. It didn’t show any concern that I had suffered a heart attack and didn’t ask about my health. actually signaled the end of our relationship, not a reconciliation. “

In the letter, Meghan appeared to question Thomas’ decision to speak to the press about her, claiming he broke her heart “into a million pieces – not just because you fabricated such unnecessary and unnecessary pain. , but choosing not to do it, tell the truth because you are a puppeteer in this. “

She also wrote that hearing about her heart attack in the tabloids was “horrible.”

“I called and texted … I begged you to accept help – we sent someone to your place … and instead of talking to me to accept this help or any other help, you stopped answering your phone and chose to only speak to the tabloids, ”she wrote.

Thomas has previously said he decided to post parts of the letter in self-defense after being referenced in an anonymous interview with the Duchess’s friends in People magazine.

One of the Duchess’s friends reportedly said: “After the wedding she wrote him a letter. She said: ‘Daddy. I’m so heartbroken. I love you, I have a father. Please stop victimizing me through the media. we can mend our relationship. ‘”

In the witness’s statement, Thomas said the People magazine article was a “total lie” and portrayed him as exploitative and dishonest.

A two-day remote hearing is currently underway to determine whether the trial will proceed after the Duchess’s legal team was allowed to seek summary judgment in October.

Thomas recently announced that he is making a documentary about Meghan to “figure out what was wrong” with their relationship.

“We had a great life together, until her first marriage and moving to Canada. Then a new story begins! It’s kind of like, ‘What happened to my little girl,’ ”he told The Sun.

“My documentary will have new videos and my favorite photo of my little girl, and we’re trying to figure out what went wrong. I think we’ll do a good job,” he added.
