Former first lady Melania Trump is fighting back after NBC resident historian Michael Beschloss criticized her renovation of the Rose Garden – calling her comments “misleading” and “dishonorable.”
On Twitter, Trump’s office slammed Beschloss for his comments on his landscaping, writing: “@BeschlossDC proved their ignorance by showing a photo of the rose garden in its early days. The rose garden is adorned with a healthy and colorful bloom of roses. His misleading information is dishonorable and he should never be trusted as a professional historian. “
The dig was in response to Beschloss, a presidential historian and frequent critic of President Donald Trump, tweet a photo from the garden and saying, “The evisceration of the White House rose garden was completed a year ago this month, and here is the grim result: decades of American history are gone.”
The renovation by the former first lady of the famous garden just behind the Oval Office was completed in August 2020 and was the first major overhaul since Jacqueline Kennedy’s in the 1960s.
The rose garden was first planted by First Lady Ellen Wilson in 1913 and is often the site of press conferences and presidential announcements.
