Outgoing first lady Melania Trump spoke about her four years in the White House during a farewell address to the American people on Monday.
In a nearly seven-minute video message, Trump thanked the military service members, law enforcement officers, caregivers and others who have inspired her since entering the White House in 2017. She emphasized her work, including her role as the Best “campaign, which aimed to combat cyberbullying, opioid abuse and other challenges facing American children.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to be the First Lady of the United States,” Trump said in the video message. “I have been inspired by incredible Americans across our country who uplift our communities with their kindness and courage, kindness and grace.”
The first lady spoke at length about the coronavirus pandemic, thanking healthcare workers for their efforts to fight the deadly virus. She called on Americans to “use caution and common sense to protect vulnerable people, as millions of vaccines are now being delivered.”
Trump also appeared to be referring to the recent violence in Washington DC, where crowds of pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol on January 6 in response to President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
“Be passionate in whatever you do, but always remember that violence is never the answer and will never be justified,” Trump said.

Breaking with long-standing tradition, the Trumps will not be present for Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday. The outgoing president and the first lady usually attend the event to symbolize the peaceful transfer of power.
Moving trucks have been spotted outside the resort town of Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, where the Trump family is expected to be residing upon their departure.
