Melissa McCarthy, 50, shows off her hourglass figure in a tight dress

Melissa McCarthy thinks we are living in a strange time of hate.

The 50-year-old movie star told InStyle magazine that with all the fighting – she especially hates people who won’t wear masks – she wonders what the future of America will be.

“ I think the scariest thing about it all, more than even COVID, is that I really didn’t think people hated each other that much or hated the idea of ​​people they didn’t even know. I always wonder, “Do racists know someone of a different color?” Said the Oscar nominated actress.

The Heat actress added, “Homophobic people:” Do you know anyone who is gay, bi or trans? Do you know these people, or is it the big unknown? “”

And she thinks that the next 10 years everyone will understand why people are so angry; there will also be more questions about mental illness. “I mean, because the whole QAnon thing, that the pizzas eat babies, and then they go to Mars and come back. It might as well be that.

Haters should see doctors.

“ I want to get angry and I get incredulous how crazy it is. But who is going to help people? If you have lost your sense of reality, we cannot get angry. People are not just wrong. They need help. ‘

The star added that she hopes her comedy helps.

“ I’m not smart enough to figure out how to purify the water, but I can throw myself down a staircase and hope that it will make someone forget about their problems. ”

Fortunately, she spent the time of her life in Byron Bay, Australia, filming the Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers alongside Nicole Kidman and Bobby Cannavale.

She told InStyle magazine that she could stay in the country forever because she likes ‘talkative’ people.

“I am connected to Australia in a way that I had not anticipated. I could very easily live here for the rest of my life. I’m in love with it, ” the bridesmaid star said. “Everyone is so talkative. I’m a girl from the Midwest who lives in LA, where no one wants to talk to you. And here I’ll be at the grocery store, and I can’t walk down a single aisle without talking to someone. That’s wonderful. I come home and have had 15 conversations.

And it is not often recognized.

“I would say 60/40. There’s a funny thing here, I think I’m recognized, but it has nothing to do with why they’re talking to me. I buy grapes and they say to me: “What do you think?” Then there are other times when someone asks, “Oh, what are you, American? Do you work here? [on a movie]? Good for you. Do you have lines? ” [laughs]”.

She has been in the country for nine months and will be staying longer to do the Netflix series, God’s Favorite Idiot, written by her husband, Ben Falcone.

“We were supposed to shoot in LA, and obviously that wasn’t going to happen,” said the slender actress on set in a tight green dress.

“ And between cleaning the grapefruits and doing the laundry, I got a call asking what I thought about going to Byron Bay to shoot it. I said, “I can’t pick up a family during a pandemic. I can’t even go down the street to go to a store.”

“ And then Vivian, my 13 year old daughter, came out so glassed up from sitting in a Zoom classroom. I was like, “I just got the strangest call. Someone asked if we wanted to move to Australia to do Nine Perfect Strangers.”

And she didn’t even take a beat. She said: “We should be leaving today. We can’t see any friends. And isn’t Australia one of the safest places on the planet?” And then I looked up at Byron Bay, and I thought, “What a fool. This is heaven.” ‘

Melissa said she felt a little bad how much fun she was having at Down Under.

“I feel strangely guilty. But then part of my ploy is to try to get more people here, which is not really my place. I’m sure the government would say, “You can’t do that. Shut up.” Ben says, “You can’t just tell people to get on a plane and go to Australia.” I was like, “Well, I’m trying to make the world I want.” ‘

Regarding her amazing career, she says she is still shocked by it.

‘Fifteen years ago, if you had said, “Oh, by the way, Ben and you are going to be able to write and do movies like the silly stories we used to do on the stage at the Groundlings improv theater in LA, “it looked like,” Really? Is that possible? “Said the star who debuted on Gilmore Girls.

“The way we do things always seems very popular. I think we are circus people in the sense that we just travel and put on a show. It’s like getting an invitation to a party where you say to yourself, “Oh, I didn’t know they knew I existed.”

And she is “quite happy” to be an actress.

“I became an actor because I find the others more interesting. I love to step out of myself and step into someone else, so when the light shines on me rather than a character, I just feel like I’m gone. ”

And McCarthy said she went too far when the pandemic started.

“My mom was out for the winter and stayed with us which was amazing. My dad got home a little early, so she got stuck. She stayed for five months, which was amazing. I haven’t lived with my mom every day since I was 18. Having this time with her again was amazing.

But she said they were in a panic.

‘It was the panic of “What have you got to wash?” We had washing stations in our garage and we left our things there. We were in hazmat suits. I just remember rubbing the outside of the grapefruits with soap and water, then [dipping them] in a vinegar bath. We didn’t know what was safe enough. The amount of rubbing and cleaning was insane. Ben was like, “Are you cloroxing the outside of the apple? Should we eat it?” It was just crazy.
