Netflix has given a series order of 16 episodes to God’s favorite fool, a workplace comedy from Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, starring Falcone and McCarthy and executive producer. Michael McDonald (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Nobodies) is committed to direct and executive production.
Created by Falcone, in God’s favorite foolMid-level tech support employee Clark Thompson (Falcone) finds love with coworker Amily Luck (McCarthy) just as he becomes God’s unwitting messenger. There’s also roller skating, a lake of fire, and a looming apocalypse.
Falcone and McCarthy produce executives through their production company On the Day.
God’s favorite fool marks the married duo’s sixth collaboration together. They have previously teamed up to produce executives and have also appeared in comedy Nobodies, which aired its first season on TV Land, then switched to sister channel Paramount Network for its second and final season. They have also teamed up on Bridesmaids, Tammy, the boss and The life of the party. The couple recently wrapped up production on the Netflix superhero comedy film. Thunder Force. Falcone directed the comedy Super intelligence, with McCarthy, which recently premiered on HBO Max. McCarthy recently hosted and produced NBC’s Small close-ups, which Falcone also produced.
Falcone and McCarthy are picked up by CAA and MGMT Entertainment. McDonald is replaced by ICM Partners.
