Melissa McCarthy plays a grieving mother facing her troubled husband (and a fiery bird) in the first trailer for new movie The Starling

She is currently starring in the intriguing new limited series Hulu Nine Perfect Strangers.

But Melissa McCarthy is already gearing up for a new project, the trailer of which was released on Tuesday.

In her new Netflix film The Starling, the Oscar nominee, 50, plays a mother mourning the loss of her child, while her husband, played by Chris O’Dowd, is sent to a mental health facility.

The clip sees her visiting her idyllic retired husband, before Melissa is referred to a shrink herself after appearing distracted at work.

The professional she is sent to, however, is a veterinarian (played by Kevin Kline) who was a therapist.

When she first shows up at her office, Melissa is asked about her pet, to which she replies that she doesn’t have one.
