A migrant traveling with a caravan that left Honduras on Friday told a reporter he was going to the United States because future President Joe Biden “is giving us 100 days to get to the United States”.
The migrant, seen in an interview shared by The Hill, did not give his name but said he was from Roatán, a tourist island off the northern coast of Honduras.
He appears to be citing Biden’s promise to put in place a 100-day moratorium on evictions – one of many items on his agenda that will overturn some of President Donald Trump’s signature policies.
The migrant told a reporter he was fleeing a “bad situation” that has been made worse by the coronavirus pandemic, hurricanes and a president who is not helping the population.
When asked what he wanted for “his people”, the migrant replied that it was “to come to the United States because they had a new president”.
“He’s going to help us all,” the migrant said of President-elect Joe Biden. “He gives us 100 days to go to the United States” to gain legal status and “improve the lives of our children and our families.”
Biden has promised a route to lawful permanent residence for those who are in the country illegally and a stay on deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

But any migrants who arrive at the US border in the first 100 days of the new Biden administration will likely be disappointed.
