ROCKFORD (WREX) – An American Marshal is in critical condition following a shootout Thursday morning in a Rockford hotel.
The authorities informed the media around 1 pm, stating that the Marshal had been operated on and that he was fighting for his life. They do not reveal his name pending notification from their family. However, they confirmed that he was working with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and that he was part of a special task force led by US Marshals.
They say the suspect, Floyd Brown, 39, is arrested by Interstate 55 in Logan County. He is not in detention, but in his car and negotiations with the authorities are continuing.
The shooting took place around 9 am at the Extended Stay America hotel, located at 747 N. Bell School Road. Authorities say the US marshals were there to serve a warrant on Brown, who is wanted under several warrants in several counties in Illinois. They say that he resides in the Springfield area, but that he was staying at the hotel in Rockford. The shooting took place from inside the hotel, but the Marshal was outside when he was hit by gunshots.
They say that another woman was in the room at the time. She was also injured by a gunshot, but the authorities claimed to believe that the police had not fired their weapons. More details on this subject are not clear at the moment.
