ROCKFORD (WREX) – An American Marshal is in critical condition following a shootout Thursday morning in a Rockford hotel.

The authorities informed the media around 1 pm, stating that the Marshal had been operated on and that he was fighting for his life. They do not reveal his name pending notification from their family. However, they confirmed that he was working with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and that he was part of a special task force led by US Marshals.

They say the suspect, Floyd Brown, 39, is arrested by Interstate 55 in Logan County. He is not in detention, but in his car and negotiations with the authorities are continuing.
