More agility with great stability: AMG DYNAMICS

According to the engine, six driving programs are available:
"Slippery", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport +", "Individual" and "RACE" (S model only). The programs are linked to the AMG DYNAMICS agility control, which means that the handling characteristics of the GLC 63 can be adjusted to meet various driving requirements and conditions with even more differentiation.

Behind the generic term AMG DYNAMICS are the "Basic", "Advanced", "Pro" and "Master" agility functions (S model only), which are automatically selected by the corresponding driving program. Relevant parameters for driving, such as engine response time, transmission, steering and suspension, all-wheel drive torque distribution, electronically controlled locking differential interventions and control thresholds of the ESP ® fully reconfigured, are intelligently tailored according to the driving program.

 "Basic" is assigned to the "Sliding" and "Comfort" driving programs. In this case, the GLC 63 displays a very stable handling with high damping

 "Advanced" is activated in the "Sport" program. The GLC 63 is then balanced in a neutral manner. The lower damping in yaw, reduced steering angle requirement and improved agility facilitate dynamic maneuvers, such as driving on winding country roads.

 "Pro" (abbreviation for "professional") is part of the "Sport +" program. In "Pro" mode, the driver receives even more assistance for dynamic maneuvers, while agility and accuracy are further improved during cornering.

 "Master" (only in the S model) is associated with the RACE training program. The "Master" mode is intended for drivers who want to enjoy the pleasure of driving on closed circuits. "Master" offers an extremely neutral balance, a low steering angle and a more agile steering. In this way, "Master" guarantees maximum agility and fully exploits the dynamic potential.

Regardless of the training programs, the driver can use the center console buttons to directly select the manual transmission mode, desired suspension setting and ideal exhaust characteristics.

The only models with a V8 biturbo

The eight-cylinder, 2.0-liter twin-turbo engine is a well-known power plant found in other high-performance AMG models. One characteristic is that the two turbochargers are not placed outside the rows of cylinders, but inside the "V" cylinder. The main advantages of this design are the compact construction of the engine and an optimal response. The spray-guided direct fuel injection system ensures clean and efficient combustion with high thermodynamic efficiency. Fast-acting piezo injectors allow multiple injections to the engine on demand and with great accuracy.

The extensive engine cooling system ensures engine performance even under extreme loads. The same goes for the optimized flow heads, made of a special heat-resistant alloy. Continuous adjustment of intake and exhaust camshafts enhances power delivery and efficiency. It offers an excellent response to acceleration and optimizes the charging cycle for each operating point. A variable-controlled oil pump also helps reduce fuel consumption.

A mechanic assembles each engine in the Affalterbach machine shop according to the "one man – one engine" principle.

The unique and powerful sound of the V8 engine comes from an exhaust system with adjustable shutter technology. The shutters are card-controlled and automatically work according to the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driver program, driver demand power and engine speed. The Performance exhaust system also allows you to modulate the sound by pressing a button.

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT ® MCT gearbox with 9 speeds

A wet start clutch replaces the torque converter on the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission. It saves weight and optimizes response to throttle pedal controls, especially when accelerating or losing power.

The multiple downshift function allows for quick acceleration, while the dual-clutch function in the "Sport" and "Sport +" driving programs offers an even more exciting driving experience. The set ignition settings also allow faster gear changes in other modes. In all modes, the start is performed in first gear to ensure an exhilarating driving experience.

The "Manual" mode can be selected with the help of a separate button in the center console. The gear changes are based on the selected driving program and the driver can now change gears using the steering wheel paddles. In addition, the transmission remains in the selected gear and does not rise automatically when the engine speed reaches the limit.

Offers optimal grip: AMG Performance 4MATIC + AWD

The AMG Performance 4MATIC + Intelligent All-Wheel Drive combines the advantages of different drive configurations: the fully variable torque distribution on the front and rear axles ensures optimum traction, right down to the physical limits. The driver can also count on great driving stability and a high level of safety in all conditions – dry, wet or snowy. The transition from rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive and vice versa is smooth, as intelligent control is integrated with all vehicle systems.

An electromechanically operated clutch allows the permanently driven rear axle to transfer power to the front axle in a variable manner. The best possible torque sharing is calculated continuously according to the driving conditions and the driver's contribution. The transitions are transparent and rely on a sophisticated matrix. In addition to traction and lateral dynamics, AWD also improves longitudinal dynamics for even more powerful acceleration.

Ideal combination of driving pleasure and comfort: the suspension

The agility, dynamic lateral acceleration and maximum grip of the new AMG GLC models also explain by the AMG RIDE CONTROL + suspension featuring a fully multi-chambered air suspension system. Supporting and Adaptive Adaptive Damping, which guarantees exceptionally high levels of camber stability, driving dynamics and steering. precision.

The front axle features a four-armed design with special axle flares, optimized elastokinetic links and radial brakes. Independent wheel control and wheel suspension provide higher lateral acceleration with minimal torque steering.

The multi-link concept specific to each model on the rear axle impresses with its extremely precise wheel control and stiffness. The AMG-specific rear axle carrier allows a wider track compared to the Mercedes-Benz GLC, while the wheel bearing contact surfaces have been moved further outward. Other measures include AMG-specific wheel carriers, stiffer elasto-kinematic tuning and a higher negative camber.

Intelligent air for optimum driving characteristics

Thanks to a sporty springs and dampers installation and an adaptive damping adjustment, the new three-chamber air suspension combines exemplary driving dynamics with excellent comfort. The stiffness of the air springs can be adjusted over a wide range by activating or deactivating individual air chambers, which greatly improves comfort and maneuverability.

There are three degrees of spring adjustment, depending on the selected driving program and the current driving status. Stiffness is automatically hardened in the event of sudden load changes, fast turns, significant acceleration or severe braking. This effectively reduces roll and pitch while stabilizing the performance of the SUV and coupe.

Adaptive depreciation is also part of the standard equipment. This fully automatic electronically controlled system adjusts the damping of each wheel to current needs. This improves driving safety and driving comfort. The damping depends on the driving style, the road surface and the selected suspension setting. The ideal operating point can be selected at any time, depending on a wide range of information relating to the acceleration or speed of the vehicle, for example.

Via a switch on the center console or configurable switches available on the steering wheel, the driver can choose between three sets of different features, including "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport +", and thus individually influence the experience driving – from very comfortable to sporty and tense.

The GLC 63 SUV and Coupé, including the Model 63 S Coupé, are standard equipped with 20 "dual-spoke 5-spoke alloy wheels of 9.5 J x 20 (at the front) and 10.0 J x 20 (at the rear), with tires of 265/45 R20 (front) and 295/40 R20 (rear) There are other combinations of wheels and optional tires, as well as forged wheels, going up to 265/40 R 21 on 9.5 J x 21 on the front axle and on 295/35 R 21 on 10 rims on the rear axle.

Perceptive and fast: the locking differential

For improved traction and driving dynamics, all models are equipped with an electronically controlled locking differential. This reduces the slippage of the inner rear wheel during cornering, without any intervention by the braking system. The result is that it allows the driver to accelerate turns faster thanks to improved traction. The vehicle remains more stable at high speed braking, while the limited slip differential also improves traction at the stop.

The main advantage of the electronic control is an even more sensitive and faster tuning ability, which raises the driving thresholds higher. The three-stage ESP® with the settings "ESP ON", "ESP SPORT handling mode" and "ESP OFF" works in perfect harmony with the limited slip differential of the rear axle and is perfectly suited exceptional dynamics.

Direct and clear answer: the AMG management responsive to speed

Electromechanical power steering sensitive to speed has a variable ratio. It impresses with its precise and authentic return, and can be preselected in two settings, "Comfort" or "Sport". The steering assistance is reduced at high speed and is constantly increasing at low speed. This means that a relatively weak steering force is needed at low speeds and that the best possible control of the vehicle is maintained at high speed. In addition, the power steering system depends on the current lateral acceleration, the driving program selected by AMG DYNAMIC SELECT or the damping adjustment.

Model S with standard dynamic motor mounts

The more powerful GLC 63 S is equipped with dynamic engine mounts. These solve the conflicting goals of comfort and dynamic performance by reducing vibrations in the engine / transmission. These dynamic supports are able, instantaneously and variable, to adapt their rigidity to driving conditions and driving style. Flexible motor mounts improve comfort, as they allow more efficient decoupling of noise and vibrations. However, the maneuverability and agility benefit from a generally more rigid mounting. The driver feels more connected to the vehicle when driving dynamically because there is more feedback and the response from the steering is more direct. The driver thus enjoys a more precise driving sensation.
