The first takeover of the latest GLE by Mercedes-AMG is revealed in the form of the new GLE53, a mid-sized crossover SUV that combines performance and efficiency.

This vehicle, which is scheduled to make its official debut on March 5 at the 2019 Geneva International Auto Show, replaces the previous generation GLE43. The "53" in the name reflects the adoption of the same lightweight hybrid system built around Mercedes' new 3.0-liter turbocharged Inline-6 engine, which debuted in the CLS53 2019 and has since been integrated into the class E family

The system, which also features an electric supercharger, provides a 429 horsepower V-8 engine and 384 lb-ft of torque, but with a performance of about 20% greater than 39, a V-8. The rest of the powertrain includes a 9-speed automatic system and an all-wheel drive.

AMG quotes a 0 to 60 km / h time of 5.2 seconds for the GLE53.

For ease of handling, AMG engineers have added a specific setting for air suspension, which includes roll stabilization. The system gravity setting can be made via the driving mode selector. When it's time to leave the tarmac, the vehicle also has specific modes for off-road and sand. A set of brakes reinforced with 15.75-inch discs at the front axle are also part of the set, as are 20-inch wheels.

The vehicle with its Panamericana grille, its aggressive front fascia and its four exhaust tips is not lacking. Inside, there is a sport steering wheel with leather lining, aluminum gearshift paddles and AMG-specific displays for the infotainment system. The infotainment system can also be enhanced with AMG's Track Pace performance data logger. There are 80 measurements, some of which can be displayed in real time in the instrument cluster or in the available head-up display.

For those looking for more performance, a new GLE63 with a twin turbocharged V8 arrives. Both AMG models will also be available in the GLE Coupe version.
