Mercedes-Benz bids farewell to SLC roadster with Final Edition models

It's been 23 years since Mercedes-Benz launched the original SLK roadster, with its taillights, folding hardtop and Sunburst Yellow paint. But the weather has not been too lenient for the SLK – now called the SLC – and the sun was finally setting on Mercedes' small two-seat car next year.

To celebrate the SLK and the SLC in the long term, Mercedes will offer two new Final Edition models, both of which will be available to US dealers in 2020. The SLC300 Final Edition will be painted in selenite gray and will feature a bumper before AMG style. The SLC300 will also feature shiny black exterior accents and dark, 18-inch, five-spoke wheels.

The Mercedes-AMG SLC43 will carry a new Sun Yellow paint, reminiscent of the original color of the SLK. It will also receive the same Final Edition exterior signals as the SLC300, but its 18-inch wheels will have a yellow rim flange.

It is important to note that even though the photos accompanying this article show a yellow SLC300, this is a car that meets European specifications. "In the US market, the SLC300 Final Edition will be available in selenite gray," according to a Mercedes statement released Tuesday.

In addition to visual upgrades, the SLCs of the final release are mechanically identical to the current models. This means that there is a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine under the hood of the SLC300, which produces 241 horsepower and 273 pounds of torque. The AMG SLC43 raises the bar a bit, with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine developing 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft. The SLC300 will reach 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds estimated by Mercedes, while the SLC AMG will perform the same course in 4.6 seconds.

It is unclear whether the Final Edition models will require much more money than their standard counterparts, but we will know more closer to the arrival of cars on American soil next year. For now, expect the Mercedes-Benz SLC Final Edition 2020 to welcome the world at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Goodbye little guy.
