Mercedes-Benz Design has created a unique concept for Design Essentials 2019.
Nicknamed the Mercedes Simplex Vision, this concept is a retro-inspired roadster that makes "a tribute to the historical legacy and the birth of the brand".
As a result, the model is inspired by the Mercedes 35 PS of 1901, which dominated the competition at Race Week in France. Mercedes says the model is "recognized as the first modern car", so they decided to pay homage to it with a new concept.

Designed to show how Mercedes can "set new standards in mobility … yesterday, today, and tomorrow," the Simplex features a conspicuous rose gold grille design designed to recall bronze radiators from a century ago. However, the central part has been replaced by a digital display displaying Mercedes letters as well as animations providing information on the condition of the car.
More specifically, the concept features four independent wheels with unique tires bearing the emblem of the Mercedes star. They are likely powered by electric motors, but the company would only say that the concept has an "alternative drive" system.
Further back, we see a retro inspired hood held by leather straps and rose gold buckles. The tandem also has no windshield and has a two-tone paint that echoes classic racing cars.
The sleek style continues in the cabin with a minimalist dashboard with pink gold instruments on which information is projected. Mercedes calls this "hyper analog" approach and the company said the car only displays information when needed.
In addition to high-tech displays, the concept includes a retro-inspired clock and a custom-made steering wheel with wooden trim. The model also features a banquette with azure padding and a Chesterfield quilting.
