There are such an absurd number of movies and TV shows currently made from video games that I had honestly forgotten about Metal Gear Solid. A film based on a snake is in the works and has finally decided its face. Oscar Isaac, recently famous in the Star Wars sequel series, will play your devious guy Solid Snake.
According to Deadline, Isaac was cast to play Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid movie directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. I’m not fluent in emoji, but it looks like Vogt-Roberts has confirmed the news on Twitter as well.
There has been talk of a Metal Gear Solid movie for many years at this point, since Konami announced in 2012 that it would be created by Sony Pictures and produced by Avi Arad. Since then he has slowly but steadily picked up other names, including Vogt-Roberts as director. With singer Oscar Isaac’s announcement, maybe rubber is finally hitting the road for this project, although Deadline reports that a production start date is not known.
Vogt-Roberts appeared on the Animal Talking show over the summer, claiming he was already hoping to film but Covid-19 caused disruption. “Covid kind of changed everything and we’re finding a bunch of things,” he said in July. “I’ve been working on this stuff for six years, trying to make it disruptive punk rock, true to Metal Gear, true to the Kojima-san spirit of what it is. I will continue to fight for this every day. Roberts has also opened up about his history as a Metal Gear fan, and it looks like he’s not the only one.
Apparently Oscar Isaac publicly threw his hat in the ring in 2019 to participate in Metal Gear Solid. “Who would you play?” he asked, and responds almost like he’s hurt that there is a question, “Snake, man.” Well, you made it Isaac. Looks like you’ll actually be playing Snake, man.
