Mets add Rich Hill to trade with Rays

The needy starters added what they hope will be a useful arm on Friday, landing Rays left-hander Rich Hill, Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed.

Hill, 41, has had a strong season with the Rays, going 6-4 with a 3.87 ERA and could make his Mets debut on Sunday or Monday, where the Mets need a starting pitcher . Hill’s previous outing was last Sunday, when he gave the Braves three earned runs in four innings. The Mets send Tampa Bay reliever Tommy Hunter and Double-A prospect Matt Dyer.

Hill has been struggling lately, hitting a 4.56 ERA in June and a 4.97 ERA in July. But the Mets are in desperate need of healthy starters with Jacob deGrom, Carlos Carrasco, Noah Syndergaard, David Peterson, Jordan Yamamoto, Joey Lucchesi, Corey Oswalt and Robert Stock all on the injured list.

Carrasco was bombed on his last rehab outing and deGrom only throws lightly while dealing with the tightness in his forearm.

The others don’t seem to be coming back. Lucchesi is out for the season following Tommy John’s surgery.
