Mets and Francisco Lindor avoid arbitration

The Mets and the newly acquired shortstop Francisco lindor avoided arbitration with a $ 22.3 million deal, for MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. Lindor is a SportsMeter customer.

Lindor’s settlement is even higher than the arbitrage projection of $ 17.5-21.5 million the MLBTR made for him earlier in the offseason. The four-time All-Star was still in Cleveland at the time, but the team knowing they wouldn’t be extending him until a free agency next winter, decided last week to send him to the Mets in a mega-exchange.

Unlike Cleveland, the Mets appear to be well equipped to respond to requests from Lindor, 27, for an extension. Lindor plans to eclipse the $ 300 million mark on his next contract, but that shouldn’t serve as a roadblock for new owner Steve Cohen. The Mets may need to act quickly, however, as Lindor has said this week that he doesn’t want to negotiate a contract during the season.
