Well, it didn’t take long. After Anthony DiComo’s initial report that the Mets were “deeply in talks” with free agent reliever Trevor May, SNY’s Andy Martino has now reported that the signature is official. The deal is still pending a physical and we don’t know the terms of the deal yet.

The New York Mets would clearly like to improve their field in the offseason and now we know their first free agent goal to do so.
According to MLB.com Anthony DiComo, the Mets are “deeply in talks” with free agent Trevor May. DiComo notes that no deal has yet been made, but as he puts it, “there is smoke”.
May made her MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2014, making nine starts while hitting a 7.88 ERA. He would later transition to a box role, but underwent Tommy John surgery before the 2017 season. The six-foot-five pitcher returned to the Minnesota relievers box in 2018.
Over the past three seasons, May pitched a 3.19 ERA with 153 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched. A fastball with an average speed of 96.3 mph, the 31-year-old set a career best mark last season with a 14.7 K / 9.
May took out nearly 40% of the hitters he faced in 2020, while generating an odor rate in the 99th percentile according to Baseball Scholar.
