Six takeaways from Friday's game
1) Jacob deGrom was brilliantly positive, including a stretch through the middle innings where he pulled out eight batters of the Braves on strikes. His only slippage came in the sixth, when Ozzie Albies singled, stole the second and scored on a Freddie Freeman base shot to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. The right-hander finished his night with seven innings pitched, allowing only one point on four hits with 13 strikeouts. But he made even more noise with the bat.
2) DeGrom took things in hand, starting from the bottom of the sixth inning, when he took the first throw of the sleeve in the opposite direction and over the left wall for a solo home run. The home race was DeGrom's second of the season (third in his career) and tied the game, 1-1.
Jacob deGrom is the first thrower of the modern era to have made at least 13 goals in a match, or twice in the same season, by Elias.

3) Seth Lugo struggled a bit when he arrived to throw the eighth goal, but blocked a pair of Braves riders when he Josh Donaldson seeks to finish the eighth summit. He returned to the mound for the ninth and threw a 1-2-3 inning.
4) Edwin Diaz made things interesting in the 10th by hitting the first batter of the inning, followed by a sacrifice decay to get the pinch runner Billy Hamilton to assist. Hamilton then stole third place, but Diaz recovered to scratch at once Ronald Acuna and Albies to withdraw to the side.
5) After Diaz escaped from the 10th, the Mets used four different pitchers to get to the 14th inning, when Jeurys Familia came to try to keep the game tied. But after a first round and a double, Hamilton managed a single on the right to give the Braves the advantage.
6) The Mets did not miss opportunities in the extra rounds, including leaving the winning round in third place in the 10th and 11th innings. They went relatively smoothly on 12 and 13, before a 1-2-3 14th inning ended the match.
