Five takeaways from Monday's match
1) 1B Pete Alonso He played key games for the Mets from the field plate, but he did most of his attack damage. The fourth game of Alonso's 2019 home multigame started at the end of the first run when he placed New York on the board with his solo shot in the left field, marking his 46th position of the season. 2) RHP Jacob deGrom (9-8, 2.70 ERA) gave the Mets another quality start and was rewarded with its first win since the Aug. 4-1 win against the Kansas City Royals. In 7.0 innings, deGrom limited the Diamondbacks to one point on three hits, eliminating 11 and one goal.
3) director Mickey Callaway went with RHP Seth Lugo in the eighth inning and stuck with him in the ninth inning. The decision paid off when Lugo launched 2.0 perfect innings – six up and six down – with four strikeouts to seal off DeGrom's good start.
4) Outside Alonso, the Mets were hit in time when SS Amed Rosario line up a RBI single in the middle of the field at the bottom of the fourth inning and score C Wilson Ramos. Rosario, who got 2 points for 3 of 8 places, added the essential support to the Mets race for deGrom and made it 2-1 at the time.
5) Diamondbacks 2B Wilmer Flores is still loved by fans of Citi Field, who praised the INF Mets (2013-18), which lasted six years, with a standing ovation. Flores, who played X for X in the night, stopped for a second and took the moment. He rocked his helmet and shot ofGrom a wink with a smile before failing Alonso for the first outing of the inning. Flores beat DeGrom at the top of the fifth inning by placing the Diamondbacks on the board with a solo shot in the left field – his eighth of the season – while the Mets led 2-1.
