Mets trade deadline targets New York fan Adam Frazier

Adam Frazier is generating some interest in the commerce market.

The Mets are one of the teams interested in the Pirates second baseman, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. And why shouldn’t they be?

Frazier has been one of baseball’s best players this season, hitting 0.326 / 0.396 / 0.461 with 109 hits heading into Friday’s game at Citi Field. The 29-year-old will take part in his first All-Star game next week.

But Frazier, who is under the team’s control until 2023, said he doesn’t care about the rumors.

“It’s cool because the other teams want you. It means you play well and can add value, ”Frazier told The Post. “But I’m not really caught up in it. I take it in stride.

“Trade speculation has been circulating for about three years. You get used to it. I can’t control it. I’m focusing on the game. What has to happen will happen. “

Since his MLB debut in 2016, Frazier has grown into an elite contact hitter. Frazier, who was a .361 hitter at Mississippi State, fixed some issues from a tough 2020 season, allowing him to return to his old form.

“I was rocking too hard and I was too fat last year,” said Frazier, who reached the career-worst 0.230 score in the COVID-shortened season. “Now I keep it simple on the pitch. I stay inside and do all I can to put this ball into play.

From the Mets’ perspective, they have an influx of players who can play second, including Luis Guillorme, Jeff McNeil, Jose Peraza and Jonathan Villar. While the addition of Frazier would certainly be a luxury for interim general manager Zack Scott, the All-Star’s talent is undeniable.

Nonetheless, there is familiarity between these two teams, as they’ve already made a trade this season – the Mets acquired Joey Lucchesi (via the Padres) for wide receiver Endy Rodriguez on a three-team deal. Additionally, Pirates general manager Ben Cherington worked with Scott in Boston and they both got their first gigs under Theo Epstein.

Whatever happens, Frazier – who has limited distractions by “stepping away from the phone and reading more instead of scrolling through Instagram” – focuses solely on baseball. But at the very least, Frazier loves New York.

“New York is fun. You walk around, shop a little, eat a little, ”Frazier said. “The fans are great here. You have to be ready to play, soak up it, and enjoy it.
