A well known tipster, Evan Blass, has just shared some interesting information via his Twitter page, he says that Sony Mobile is preparing to leave the Middle East, Turkey and Africa in October. The company is currently active in all these markets because some of its devices are officially available on site, but it seems that will not be much longer, since Blass says that Sony Mobile will "close its operations and offices "on all these markets in October.
This is not an official confirmation or anything like that, but Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) is a pretty reliable source for such information, so there is a good chance it will be true. It's not really a secret that Sony Mobile is one of Sony's most problematic companies because the company does not sell as many smartphones as they would like. It seems that Sony Mobile is looking to focus on other markets with this move, probably Europe, Asia and the United States, but we are only guessing at this point. The company has not released exactly a ton of phones this year because it is trying to focus on the few that it thinks will sell well, like the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact, which are the new flagship smartphones of the company. Both of these phones were introduced in February and have been made available in some markets, while both phones are almost as powerful, even though they are very different, and their specifications differ a bit.
Both phones are powered by the Octa-core Snapdragon 845 64-bit processor, and both come with the same main camera configuration. The Xperia XZ2 is larger, made of metal and glass, while the Xperia XZ2 Compact is arguably the most powerful compact smartphone (Android) on the market, and is made of metal and polycarbonate. Sony hopes that these two devices will sell significantly better than its previous offers because these two phones are significantly different in terms of design compared to just about everything else Sony Mobile has released over the past two years.
