On Friday, Axios reported earlier, citing sources who participated in discussions with the president, that Trump often commented to advisers that he wanted the United States to leave the WTO, a decision that could have disastrous consequences . ] for world trade.
The Secretary of the Treasury described the report as "an exaggeration".

According to Axios' memo, a person who discussed the matter with Trump said that the president often told councilors that "I do not know why we are here." The WTO is designed by the rest of the world to ruin the United States ".
The WTO, composed of 164 members, is the only entity at the international level that regulates the rules of trade between countries and whose purpose, he declares, is to open trade "for the benefit of all".
Axios noted that an exit from the organization would require a US congressional law and that Trump was unlikely to pursue that ambition.
