BEIRUT.- The UN human rights commissioner warned Friday of a " disaster " in the south of Syria where the pro-government forces launched a vast offensive against the rebels.
The offensive forced thousands of people to flee their homes and live in precarious conditions near the border with Jordan.
Syrian Public Television reported that pro-government forces entered the village of Ibtah in the province of Daraa after the Reversal of rebel arms and asked to be included in an amnesty . The station broadcast live images of army soldiers entering the city.
Syrian troops advanced into the south of the country, one of the last remaining rebel strongholds, under the protection of heavy bombing and artillery.
Official media reports that outside Ibtah, the rebels have laid down their arms in the neighboring villages of Tafas and Dael. The same thing happened in the villages of Umm al-Mayadin, Nasib, Saida and Tiba.
Opposition activists reported incidents of violence while a 12-hour truce was announced after the mediation of Russia and Jordan. More than 100,000 people have had to leave their homes since the start of the official offensive on June 19th.
A few days ago, UN stated that some 50,000 people had been displaced and had fled to the border region with Jordan, which stated that she could not accept more of refugees.
