The activity of the mining and hydrocarbons sector of Peru rose 1.86% in May for the third consecutive month, supported by rising production of oil, natural gas, zinc and tin, the government announced on Sunday. The hydrocarbon subsector grew 12.54% year-on-year and the metal mining subsector grew 0.16% in June, according to a report by 39; National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI)

World metals and their mining exports are vital to the local economy as they account for 60% of their total shipments.

In May, zinc production increased 8.7%, tin production increased 4.5%, and copper production increased 1.4%; while silver mining fell 2.6%, gold fell 4.0% and lead rose 9.4%, said INEI .

The institute also said that domestic consumption of cement, another relevant indicator of the performance of the economy, recorded an increase of 8.25% year-on-year in May.

Similarly, fishing activity increased 26.74% in May year-on-year. the extraction of anchovies, used for the manufacture of fishmeal, of which Peru is the world's largest producer
