The Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley, located in the states of Puebla and Oaxaca, and the refuge of more than 140 species of birds, has been declared a World Heritage Site, announced the l 39; Unesco Monday

This 145,255-hectare valley protects both cultural and natural heritage. It is the habitat of unique species, among which large cactus forests in columns and specimens of endangered wildlife such as the Golden Eagle.
"Protects about 141 species of birds, including hummingbirds, considered important pollinators for some cactus, and protects 10% of the 30,000 species of vascular plants described for Mexico," says the secretariat Mexican Environment (Semarnat).
As far as its cultural richness is concerned, the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán valley contains vestiges dating back to the origin of agriculture and the passage of the hunter-gatherer societies to the Neolithic sedentary societies, among which the cave paintings, cemeteries, mounds, constructions and citadels
In Mexican legislation, this area has been under protection since 1998, and in 2012 it was declared a biosphere reserve.
Tehuacán is located in Puebla and means in native language. Nahuatl "place of the gods" while Cuicatlán, in Oaxaca, "tierra que sung"
was the second time that this exceptional Mexican site I was lucky with Unesco, after a first attempt missed in 2016.
