Graduate of UG develops research on the anthropology of diabetes

In order to understand social constructs, individual and collective interactions around diabetes, María Elizabeth Navarro Jerónimos has developed an investigation focused on the anthropology of this disease.

Elizabeth graduated in Social Anthropology from the University of Guanajuato on the León campus. For her project, she used the ethnographic method to report on certain aspects of the patient's life, thus allowing an analysis of the perception of diabetes. Understand it and generate a process of assertive communication with members of the self-help group.

This is how he proposed to give the workshop "Personal Body Care for Prevention and Life with Individual and Community Diabetes" In addition, this project will generate synergy between social workers, general practitioners , psychologists, ogos, physical activators, nutritionists and anthropologists, who will promote metabolic control of participants through self-management behavior based on healthy eating and risk reduction.

This workshop was given to the Medical Unit for Health. (Umaps) Santa Ana del Conde; there was a self help group (GAM) called Sentinel, consisting of 20 people with diabetes and hypertension.

"Personally, it is very important, my father lived with diabetes, and even if I had this experience with him and I took care of my father's care, I did not Had not the knowledge of what is diabetes education, "said Elizabeth.
