Lula is declared innocent of obstruction of justice

The former president of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was found innocent of obstruction of justice.

Lula is currently serving time for other charges of corruption and

Judge Ricardo Augusto Soares Leite ruled in favor of Lula because there is not enough evidence to convict Lula and others for attempt to interfere in a corruption investigation of the state oil company Petrobras .

Lula and others were accused of trying to buy the silence of a former leader of Petrobras .

Last year, Lula was sentenced for exchange of favors with a construction company also involved in the scandal in exchange for the promise of an apartment facing the sea.

Both cases were part of the Autolavado investigation, where prosecutors allege that politician offered him favors in state contracts to corporations in exchange for bribes and contributions to the campaign [19659012].
