Walmart buys 52 stores in Costa Rica

Walmart de México y Centroamérica went shopping in Costa Rica. On Thursday, the company announced the acquisition of stores Perimercados, Supercompro and Saretto with which it will develop 52 units in this country.

These stores that Walmart acquires will add 39 thousand square meters of sale, in Perimercados, Supercompro and Saretto formats.

During the first six months of the current year, Walmart reported in Costa Rica the opening of a supermarket in Alajuela, and a winery in San Jose .

Walmart in Costa Rica has 249 commercial units in operation, adding the 52 stores of GESSA, the retailer would add 301 stores, becoming his country of the region with a greater presence.

The number of stores acquired is similar to the total number of stores opened last year in the region, which includes Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

By the end of 2017, the retailer said that Central America had recorded a 4.9% growth in comparable sales.

In the first quarter report, it was reported that in comparable stores, sales in Central America increased by 7.1%, where sales growth was highest in Nicaragua, followed by Honduras and El Salvador. While Costa Rica and Guatemala experienced slightly lower growth, but also positive.

In the first six months of this year, Walmart reported in Costa Rica the opening of a supermarket in Alajuela and a winery in San José.

The company did not disclose the amount of the transaction and noted that the closing of the transaction is subject to the approval of the relevant authorities.
