The Cuban Head of State emphasized that the two countries shared common values and assured that the island would work to maintain and strengthen these relations.
The Cuban president also thanked the head of the Russian Orthodox Church for the gesture of having chosen Havana for his meeting with Pope Francisco, which was held in February 2016.

During the meeting, the press service of the Russian government, quoted by TASS, mentioned the problems of Russian-Cuban cooperation in the economic and commercial fields, investment, science and technology, culture and humanitarian .

The day before, the Cuban president had met Russian businessmen shortly after holding official talks in the Kremlin with President Vladimir Putin, with whom he had signed a joint declaration.
