Playa del Carmen.-Abraham Ancer had no idea that he became the first Mexican to rank among the top 100 golfers in the world rankings since its inception in 1986.
The Tamaulipas, number 98 of the PGA Tour, had 12 months. During the 2017-18 season, he has accumulated five top-10s and, in this season, he has been among the top five, twice, only in three tournaments.
Your place in the ranking does not press you and does not intimidate you. Ancer remains calm in front of the expectations of this weekend during the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
"I do not want to play better than I. I'm trying to do the same thing every turn, already on Sunday, analyzing where I am and where I want to finish," said Ancer.
Tomorrow, kick off the 12th edition of the Mayakoba Classic on the grounds of El Camaleón, in Playa del Carmen, in which no Mexican has been crowned. In addition, no tricolor title has won title on the PGA Tour since Victor Regalado in 1978. Ancer was very close to victory.
In the Quicken Loans National (July) and the Dell Technologies Championship (September), Tamaulipeco started the fourth round of the last group, but failed to connect the shots that would have been won.
The golfer realized that errors in the putt complicated his good starts of the tee. After a two-week break in October, he devoted himself to adjusting these delicate touches so as not to miss the key moments of this young season.
"I focused a lot on him and I improved a lot, now we have to mix the shots to carry the title," said Abraham in a conversation with EL UNIVERSAL Deportes.
The challenge for the Mexican is to have this campaign in the top 50.
