The explosive alerts that resulted in the expulsion of a Madrid train station and several trains in one of Barcelona were false, because the alleged explosive was in reality the loop of A pomegranate-shaped belt, as confirmed today by the Spanish police.
The alert was triggered after 8:00 (07:00 GMT) because a woman suspected of driving a high-speed train (AVE) to Sants Station (Barcelona) heading to Atocha (Madrid ) could carry an explosive your luggage
A guardian detected a suspicious object in a scanner, but the delay in the warning allowed the woman carrying the suitcase to board her train.
This alert forced to stop the traffic on the six AVE highways of this station of Barcelona and to expel two trains which had to leave for Madrid and Paris.
Catalan regional police officers carried out appropriate security checks and traffic was gradually restored.
The train to Madrid was scheduled to arrive at 10:15 (09:15 GMT), but a few minutes before the Spanish National Police began evacuating the Atocha station in the Spanish capital.
The trains bound for Madrid were stopped before their arrival and the police inspected the suspect suitcase, which proved that the alleged explosive was a loop.
After this check, the alert was turned off and both stations returned to normal in a few minutes, however with delays in train traffic between the two largest Spanish cities.
