A scam uses verified Twitter accounts that supplant Elon Musk and offer 10,000 bitcoins.

Twitter users complain that several verified accounts appeared on the social network posing as Elon Musk and share publications claiming that they give 10,000 bitcoins ($ 64.1 million) to their subscribers .

In addition, in the comments section of these tweets, other verified users write about their positive experiences and ensure that this act of generosity from the co-founder of SpaceX and Tesla is real. But everything is about a scam.

According to the complaints, to obtain money from gullible users, the fraudsters ask them to make a monetary contribution to verify their identity, after which they would receive the bitcoins of an expedition which, however, never happens. Verified messages are generally promoted, which greatly increases their reach.

One of the ways to check if there is fraud is to determine if the name of the account starting with arroba is different from @elonmusk.

This is not the first time that a scam appears in networks that supplant Musk's identity. Thus, in late July, Twitter blocked many robots that imitated this account on the platform and offered less experienced users to participate in a new type of blockchain technology in which the only thing to do was to: pay for "tokens" of a new cryptocurrency.

Scams using the name Musk have become so commonplace in networks that even the businessman himself has come to jokingly tweet: "Do you want to buy bitcoins?"
