According to a study by the Institute of Biology of UNAM, corn and its derivatives such as tortilla, tamales, sopes, among others; cause cancer by containing fungal toxins.

Toxins were localized as aflatoxins of the mycotoxin family; are substances produced by the strain of fungi, which sometimes according to The Big Data may arise due to mismanagement in the corn crop.

Therefore, corn to be consumed by humans and animals can cause aflatoxicosis and even death.

Maize toxins according to Magda Carvajal Moreno, a researcher at the Institute of Biology causes the development of cancer over the years; so he asks to have a balanced diet.

"They accumulate for many years and then different types of cancer develop according to the person's family predisposition," he explained at the time. A press conference to the media

The study showed, according to Carvajal, that 95% white corn and 60% yellow corn contain aflatoxins; for what has become the leading cause of cancer development with 36%, compared with snuff consumption with 31% and infections at 11%.

But sopecites are not the only cause of cancer among Mexicans, but it is also a genetic problem, says UNAM researcher, "We are all born with latent proto-oncogenes and aflatoxins, by a chemical mechanism of oxidation, transform them into oncogenes (carcinogens) that accumulate for years DNA (adducts) and mutation, mainly in people with a genetic predisposition ", explained Magda Carvajal Moreno, a researcher at the Institute of Biology of the Autonomous University of Mexico.
