Morena's legislator said that, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year in Mexico 37.26% of the food produced is wasted, which could help seven million people in extreme poverty.

Guevara Espinoza pointed out that efforts have been made to reduce food poverty by implementing the National Crusade against Hunger, one of whose aims is to provide food to vulnerable populations.

"I consider that it is necessary that private initiative be part of a crusade aimed at reducing food waste and reducing this poverty gap, and whoever will do so will benefit from an incentive." ", did he declare.

The legislature stated that its proposal was aimed at ensuring compliance with Article 4 of the Constitution, which establishes the right to nutritious, adequate and quality food.
