MEXICO – Comparable sales by the largest retail chains in Mexico rose in October to their lowest annual pace since April, mainly due to an unfavorable schedule, with the month being a Sunday less than October 2017.
The National Association of Supermarkets and Department Stores of Mexico (ANTAD) announced Monday that in October, sales of its subsidiaries in stores with more than one year of activity increased by 3.7% per year in nominal value.

Although the increase is higher than the 2.1% recorded by the same sales in October 2017, it is well below the 7.2% that had increased in the same month in 2016 and the 9.7% that had increased in October 2015.
Celebrations related to the Day of the Dead did not help boost sales at retail stores, which reached their second-lowest level in October in 2018.

ANTAD, which includes the Walmart giants of Mexico City (Walmex) and Soriana, added that total sales of its partners had increased by 7.5% in October compared to the same month in 2017.
Walmex announced last week that sales of its stores after more than a year of business declined in the tenth month, hit by a negative calendar that overshadowed better consumption by its customers.
