In Mexico, breast cancer is the leading cause of illness among women over 20, and the second leading cause of death worldwide after cardiovascular disease.
That's what the head of the Department of Epidemiology at the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Juan Manuel Cardona, said at the first symposium of updated jurisdictions on breast cancer, organized by the Secretary of State for Health.
He said that by 2030 he would be in first place in mortality worldwide. It is therefore necessary to raise awareness about the prevention of this disease, which affects the family and social environment, and that in Mexico, there is a major public health problem, said the speaker.
During the event, specialists in breast cancer care gathered at the Sun Pyramid, Plaza de las Culturas, to give talks under the title "Epidemiological Perspective".
"Positioning in mammography", "Radiological interpretation and complementary studies", "Emotional tools" and "Patient nutrition", among others. Adalberto Peña de los Santos, head of the number one health jurisdiction, inaugurated the activities that marked the month of breast cancer prevention and emphasized the importance of involving society in the actions to detect and easily assist with the disease.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Health, through the Department of Gender Equity and Sexual and Reproductive Health, was maintaining a program focused on prevention, detection of this disease and sexual and reproductive health. others, and the care of patients.
