Cancer patients will be able to get their drugs with blockchain

Imagine that people with cancer, who do not have enough resources to buy their drugs, can get them free thanks to technology blockchain .

This is what FedEx Institute of Technology research through an alliance with the pharmaceutical services company Good Shepherd Pharmacy announced last Friday.

The companies will build a blockchain infrastructure in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, to recover drugs that were not used by other cancer patients and create a reserve for those who do not have money to acquire them.

"Nothing in Tennessee, more than $ 10 million worth of prescription drugs and in perfect condition are flushed out every year," said Phil Baker, CEO of Good Shepherd Pharmacy.

"Blockchain is the solution to this problem. The REMEDI project (REclaiming MEDIcine) will send valuable medicines to the hands of patients who would not otherwise receive them," he added.

"Blockchain technology represents a new era in technological innovation," said Christine Fahey, founder of Blockchain 901 a professional organization of this technology in Memphis.

"We are excited to help Memphis develop technological resources in this cutting-edge space."

For build infrastructure blockchain the institute will hold the hacknight on Tuesday, an event at It hopes to bring together blockchain enthusiasts and professionals who want to participate in this project.

"One of the most valuable resources that universities can provide to the innovation ecosystem is the space to explore new ideas and opportunities," said Cody Behles , Deputy Director of Innovation and Research Support at the FedEx Institute.

"Memphis attracts the next wave of (innovation) companies, which recognize that establishing in traditional markets like San Francisco is not always the best business decision, we are here to to cultivate collaboration through partnerships and the amplification of opportunities, "he added.
