In Durango, the number of cases of type 2 diabetes detected increased by 12.2% in 2018 compared to the same period last year.

According to the information provided by the Directorate General of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, there would be six thousand 903 cases, with updated information as of October 6 of the current year.

According to the breakdown of the report, two thousand, 845 men and four thousand, 058 women were screened for a chronic degenerative disease, classified by the World Health Organization as a global threat.

Nearly 59% of people diagnosed this year with a disease that causes a significant deterioration in the quality of life and, in some cases, premature death, are women.

The health problem is not minor in Durango, since this disease is diagnosed on average by 172 people per week.

At the country level, 333,941 cases of type 2 diabetes were detected in 2018, including 139,632 men and 194,309 women.

In this area, 58% of the detections correspond to the female sex, which shows that the local and national incidence is very similar.

Meanwhile, about 8,348 people a week are diagnosed with this disease throughout Mexico.
