The incidence of type 2 diabetes in Mexico, it has increased by 41.06% since 2000.

Data from the Morbidity Yearbook of the Directorate General of Epidemiology indicate that in 2000, the rate of type 2 diabetes in Mexico per 100,000 population was 287.19 cases; in 2017, the incidence rose to 402.12.

Five states experienced an increase in the rate of type 2 diabetes, which exceeded 100% during this period.

Chiapas, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Sonora and Colima are the states with the largest increase in cases of type 2 diabetes

In Chiapas, the increase was 212.12%; in 2000, the incidence of this disease in the state was 111.69 and last year, 357.97.

Zacatecas increased from 213.33 cases per 100,000 in 2000 to 313.13 in 2017, an increase of 129.84.

Aguascalientes recorded an incidence of type 2 diabetes of 645.77 in 2017, up from 319.8 in 2000. The increase was 101.93.

In the case of Sonora, the increase was 101.17%, from 197.14 to 396.79.

Colima had a 100.15% increase, with a diabetes mellitus rate of 366.52 in 2017 and 183.12 in 2000.

In addition, the following states recorded an increase above the national average: Veracruz, Sinaloa, Tlaxcala, Oaxaca, EDOMEX, Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi, Jalisco and Nayarit.
