German businessmen maintain investment projects in Querétaro

The German companies of Queretaro and the Bajío region as a whole will pursue their long-term investment plans, said Thomas Meller, director of the Bajío office of the US Chamber of Commerce and Industry. -Mexican (Camexa).

"The periods or short-term dynamics we observe do not affect the long-term view of German businessmen in Mexico," he said in an interview.

He recalled that there are companies operating in the country for decades, such as Siemens or Volkswagen, which represent the confidence that German investors have in Mexico, regardless of the economic or political situation or cycles individuals.

In the first quarter of 2018, foreign direct investment (FDI) from Germany to Querétaro rose to 80.8 million, according to the Ministry of Economy; this, meant an increase of 9 percent, compared to the amount recorded in the same period of 2017.

German capital is the second-largest state after US investment, and accounts for 20.8% of total FDI recorded in the entity over the last three years. first months of this year.

It is worth mentioning that in 2017 the flow of German FDI into the entity has grown exponentially, rising from a total of registered capital flows, of 48 million dollars in 2016, to 278.5 million in 2017.

From 1999 to January-March 2018, German direct investment in Querétaro amounted to $ 922.1 million, according to data from the federal agency.

"It's a much longer horizon, and as mentioned, the potential and opportunities in Mexico are plentiful," said Meller.

He said, well, that companies continue to settle in the region, especially in the automotive sector.

"In recent years we have witnessed a very strong boom that has contributed to the growth of these German companies and I think that the rest of the year will not experience the same activity as last year. but it's positive, "he says

He commented that although the business promotion activity between Germany and the Bajío region occurred mainly in the last Hanover Industrial Fair, it is considered the commercial visit from a delegation of businessmen from September to October.

Regarding dual education, the regional director of Camexa emphasized the importance of the training model for German companies in El Bajío. He mentioned that the biggest demand is in the automotive sector, in the supply chain.

"We have companies like Brose or Kostal, and they have, because of the number of employees they hire, this need for specialized staff." And how the supply chain is structured from levels 1 and 2, we also have specialized companies looking for experts, "he said.
