Keeping gasoline prices below 20 pesos per liter during the month of May cost the federal government the levy of the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS). Gasoline and diesel in less than 32 months, that is, of September 2015.
The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) reported in its Report on Public Finance and Public Debt that in May, the IEPS had collected 12 thousand 275.8 million pesos for gasoline and diesel, the lowest figure since September 2015, when for this tax, 12 thousand 227.1 million pesos were collected.
In relative terms, IEPS collection of gasoline and diesel decreased by 40.1% in May compared to May 2017, when nearly 20 billion pesos were collected.
In May, the Mexican mix reached $ 67.21 per barrel, its highest price since November 2014, a situation that pushed the Treasury to raise to 70% the fiscal stimulus applied to the fuel tax, the largest high of 2018 and the highest since the beginning of the liberalization process of gasoline prices.
For the period January-May, the Treasury reports that 71 thousand 704.3 million pesos were collected, or 21.4% in real terms less than during the same period of last year.
Decreases in income
In its monthly report, the dependency reported that the fiscal revenues of the public sector from January to May 2018 amounted to 2 trillion trillion pesos, or 173.7 billion pesos more than those foreseen in the program but Decrease of 12.5% in real terms compared to the same period of 2017.
