CITY OF MEXICO.- Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, are two characters associated with Mexico, art and especially love. But even though at first glance it seemed like they were living an enviable romance, the reality was very different. Although they are the most popular husband and wife painters in Mexico, their relationship was far from perfect, indeed, we would dare to say that it was toxic, sickly and very destructive.

The reasons may be varied, but the multiple infidelities of Rivera (and Frida) were crucial for this love story does not end at all.

Rivera had a long amorous history in which appeared the Russian painters Angelina Petrovna, with whom she married and had a son who died shortly after his birth; and Marevna Vorobe-Stebelska, with whom she had a daughter.

Frida, born July 6, 1907, heard of Diego for the first time in 1922, while he was painting in the auditorium of the Preparatory National School of that one. she studied. At that time he was 36 years old and she was 15 years old.

At the end of this year, Diego is married for the second time. During her marriage with Guadalupe Marín she had two daughters: Lupe and Ruth. However, as in most of their relationships, the taste has lasted very little.

Three years after her first contact with the Mexican muralist, Frida suffered a spectacular accident in a streetcar that left her prostrate in a bed and virtually paralyzed. He had several broken ribs, as well as injuries to the pelvis and one foot. He underwent more than 30 surgeries, but never completely recovered. It was then that he began to paint.

It was Rivera's third marriage, who was already 43 years old and Frida was just 22 years old. But their union surprised, seeing the fragile woman, in love with a huge and mature man. in every way, since it weighed over 120 pounds. Nevertheless, she managed to make the painter abandon his constant love, at least for a time

. The Mexican painter became obsessed with the idea of having a child despite the consequences of the tram accident. In 1932, she became pregnant, but had to abort because the fetus put her life in danger. Although he later tried, he finally convinced himself that he would never become a mother.

But later, Diego committed the worst deception towards his wife: had a relationship with Cristina Kahlo Yes, Frida's sister! This collapsed the painter and plunged him into a deep depression because she had already tolerated several infidelities, but that was the last drop. From that moment they decided to continue together, but in an open relationship in which both could have other partners.

In 1937, Leon Trotsky arrived in Mexico, fleeing from Russia. Diego admired for what he managed to help him settle in Mexico. And it is then that, perhaps for revenge, Frida initiated a love affair with the Soviet.

In 1939 the marriage between Rivera and Kahlo was destroyed and they agreed to divorce, but they never lost touch. They could not be together, but they could not live one without the other.

Once separated, she wrote to him: "The only thing I ask is not to be wrong, there is no reason, write me whenever you can, try not to work too much now that you start the fresco, take care of your eyes, do not live alone so that there is someone to take care of you, and whatever you do, your Frida will

When the painter's health was at its critical point, Diego proposed marriage again and she agreed with certain conditions: that they would live in separate homes and would not have been allowed to live. They were married again on December 8, 1940, on the birthday of Diego

They stayed together until the death of the painter, July 13, 1954. Diego noted : "I gave myself this is my love for Frida" However, he did not know how to love it.

E n 1955, Diego gets married for the fourth time, with Emma Hurtado, also unfaithful. The muralist died on November 24, 1957 in Mexico City.
